Johannesburg water crisis: Time for transparent, constant communication

14 November 2024

The GOOD Party calls Joburg Water and Rand Water to take a communication tip from the electricity crisis playbook and initiate immediate, comprehensive and daily water updates.

Johannesburg is on the brink of a crisis. We need to learn from the lessons of the past.

The public is desperate for information and if those in authority do not speak loudly and often, the void will be filled by uninformed views with mixed messages.

During the peak of load shedding, Eskom implemented a strategic communication strategy to keep the public informed.

The power utility made themselves available for daily press statements, weekly briefings, and extensive social media posts.

The public needs to be assured the situation is under control and being managed.

We call on the water entities to be transparent in their communication.

Now is not the time for politics.

Now is the time for a robust and comprehensive set of interventions.
