Statement on resignation of Judge Legodi from the Strategic Defence Procurement Packages Commission

President Jacob Zuma, on 04 November 2011, appointed a Commission of Inquiry into allegations of Fraud, Corruption, Impropriety or Irregularity in the Strategic Defence Procurement Packages (commonly referred to as the Arms Deal).
Judge Willie Seriti of the Supreme Court of Appeal was appointed to chair the Commission. Other members of the Commission appointed to assist Judge Seriti were Judge President Hendrick Musi and Judge Francis Legodi.
The President has received the resignation of Judge Legodi with deep regret and after consulting with him as to the reasons for his resignation has decided to accede to the judge's request.
Judge Legodi has tendered his resignation for personal reasons and has requested that such reasons remain confidential.
