DA slammed for its apartheid style of government in Cape Town
A High Court judge yesterday ruled that the DA handling of the Marikana informal settlement residents was the same as the apartheid governments. Judge Pat Gamble declared the conduct of the city as "unconstitutional and unlawful" (see judgment here).
The ANC condemned the city during its vicious campaign to forcefully remove the residents and smash down their dwellings. This judgment confirms what the ANC has been saying all along about the DA in the Western Cape, as the judge ruled that: "Civil unrest may result as a response to its actions".
The terrible state of people's lives in the townships of the Western Cape has long been identified by the ANC as the cause of service delivery protests. While judge Gable delivered the ruling, the DA led City of Cape Town ironically sent into Joe Slovo Park (Milnerton) the rogue Metro Police and Law Enforcement Official to jackboot style demolish more shacks.
The ANC unreservedly condemns the city, the mayor, the DA in the Western Cape and its leader and premier Helen Zille for presiding over such a harsh regime and using apartheid style tactics to oppress the people of the Western Cape. African and coloured people have lived under apartheid rule by the old NP and by the new NP, the DA. They know its true colours - white and racist.
In a similar situation the DA leader Zille and mayor Patricia de Lille were seen off by residents in Hangberg, who told them in no uncertain terms that they were fed up with the slow pace of housing delivery in the area. After failing to exclude certain members of the community, another NP style tactic of having staged meetings, the DA leaders were confronted by angry residents of Hangberg who reminded them that they had been shot at by police when they protested. Four people lost an eye each in these shootings.
