FF statement on the burglary of the CIC’s parliamentary office
29 July 2015
The Economic Freedom Fighters have laid a criminal charge with the South African Police Services in Cape Town and wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly to report the burglary that happened in the Parliamentary office of the Commander in Chief Julius Malema.
When the EFF Parliamentary support staff arrived in the office of the CIC Julius Malema in the morning of the 29th of July 2015, they found that the the office door locks had been changed and doors left opened, and private/confidential files containing information of the EFF are missing. As things stand, the files which contain the travel and security information of the Commander in Chief has disappeared and it looks like it was an inside job.
The EFF hope and believes that the SAPS and Parliamentary Protection Services will thoroughly and independently investigate the burglary if neither of them were involved in the act. The EFF condemns and expresses utter disgust over the reality that there is growing securitization of Parliament and all its operations. For now we believe that this securitization is not summoned and implemented by David Mahlobo, State Security Minister who infamously jammed the network during the 2015 State of the Nation Address.
The EFF sends a clear warning to all Security Agents of the State that they should keep a reasonable distance from party political issues and relations. State Security Agencies should at all times seek to protect all citizens. We hope that the individuals who broke into the CIC’s office will be caught, arrested and those working with them exposed.
