ActionSA welcomes Justice Mahube Betty Molemela’s appointment as President of the Supreme Court of Appeal

ActionSA welcomes President Cyril Ramaphosa’s appointment of Madam Justice Mahube Betty Molemela as President of the Supreme Court of Appeal and believes her appointment will bring further strong leadership to the country’s judiciary.

We welcome that President Ramaphosa chose to appoint a woman to the powerful position in the Supreme Court of Appeal after his decision to appoint Justice Mandisa Muriel Lindelwa Maya as deputy chief justice of the Constitutional Court.

Justice Molemela has had an illustrious judicial career spanning over 15 years, having been appointed as the first judge president of the Free State High Court in 2008 before her elevation to the Supreme Court of Appeal in 2008.

ActionSA believes her appointment is a step in the right direction as part of the transformation of key institutions and hopes that her appointment will contribute to making the judicial system more accessible to all South Africans. We wish her well as she embarks on this important task.
