Aurora ruling a huge victory for former Pamodzi employees - Solidarity
3 March 2015
Trade union Solidarity today hailed the Pretoria High Court's rejection of Khulubuse Zuma's urgent application for the deferment of legal steps against the directors and the managers of Aurora Empowerment Systems as a huge victory for former Pamodzi employees.
Gideon du Plessis, general secretary of Solidarity, said today's ruling is a victory as far as justice is concerned, as there is now hope that the lawsuit will run its full course. The ruling means that the Pamodzi liquidators can proceed with their lawsuit against the Aurora directors on 23 March. Moreover, the court ordered Zuma to bear the costs of today's court proceedings.
"We are grateful that the lawsuit can go ahead and that the process wasn't delayed. Justice can finally be obtained for the estimated 5 300 former Pamodzi employees," according to Du Plessis.
The Pamodzi liquidators want to ensure by means of the lawsuit that the Aurora directors are held responsible for the stripping of Pamodzi assets to the value of R1,6 billion as well as the proceeds obtained from the sale of gold, equipment, scrap metal and other assets.
