IFP: REWARD MUST BE OFFERED TO SOLVE KILLING OF 14 PEOPLE IN LADYSMITH

The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal calls on the police to urgently offer a reward to anyone with information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the killers of 14 people in Ladysmith this past weekend.  The IFP is of the view that the team dispatched by the MEC of Community Safety, Willies Mchunu consisting of transport head of department Sibusiso Gumbi, management from the department of community safety, and Ladysmith mayor Vincent Madlala to look into the two shootings, is not enough (see report in The Mercury).

"We ask ourselves whether these people who were killed are IFP supporters because whenever an IFP supporter is killed police are dragging their feet to arrest the killers. When the South Coast ANC leader, Wandile Mkhize was killed in 2012 police offered a reward of R100 000 to anyone with information that would lead to the arrest of the killers. Why this time they don't offer such a reward when so many innocent lives have been lost?" said IFP Spokesperson on Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Blessed Gwala, MPL.

"We demand that the MEC must tell us what contingent measures are in place to ensure that the people of this province are safe and that any unruly elements found to be violating the rights of others face the might of the law. We further request that police must work around the clock and arrest these killers and ensure that swift justice is served. The perpetrators must be denied bail," concluded Mr Gwala.

The IFP sends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish those injured a speedy and full recovery.
