Leaked charges an effort to subject Vavi to media trial - John Dludlu

Spokesperson says suspended COSATU GS is confident he will be vindicated by a lawful inquiry

Mr Vavi slams latest leaks of charges against him

We have noted with deep concern that the detractors of Mr Zwelinzima Vavi have wasted no time in leaking the charges against him (see M&G report). Like the continuous selective leaks of details of the forensic probes against him during the five months of his illegal suspension, we believe the purpose of this week's latest leaks is to subject Mr Vavi to a media trial with the hope that some, if not all, of the trumped up charges against him will stick like mud. This is unfair, and in our view represents a further assault on the rights of Mr Vavi.

We are however confident that many South Africans will see through this malicious agenda. The basic rule at all times is that the onus and the burden of proof lies with the one making allegations. Mr Vavi is no different -- he remains innocent until proven guilty.

Even in the face of such patent violation of his rights, Mr Vavi is confident of his innocence and that any lawful inquiry will vindicate him and expose the agenda against him.

Statement issued by John Dludlu, Vavi family spokesman, January 18 2014
