Lockdown won't stop our political activity - EFF

Fighter refuse to be held ransom by a regime that seeks to undermine democracy

EFF STATEMENT ON ANNOUNCEMENT OF LEVEL-3 LOCKDOWN REGULATIONS AND EFFECTIVE CLOSURE OF POLITICAL SPACE

Tuesday, 15 June 2021

The EFF notes the announcement of level-3 of the lockdown regulations to curb the spread of the Corona Virus. These heightened restrictions must be noted as a concession to failure by a government that has been preoccupied with looting and has failed at all levels to establish a comprehensive vaccination program.

As a result of this government's loyalty to Western pharmaceutical giants, South Africa has been left in the wilderness in terms of vaccinations, with the South African Health Practitioners Association actively refusing to approve the Sputnik V from Russia and China's Sinovac vaccine.

Cyril Ramaphosa's absolute loyalty to imperialism, which saw him go and wander around aimlessly at a G7 meeting of those he seeks approval from, is why South Africa is in a permanent state of uncertainty.

The EFF refuses to be held ransom by a regime that seeks to undermine democracy by holding elections while effectively suspending political activity through the limitations on gatherings.

We have long reiterated that the protection of human life is dependent on a large-scale vaccination program and science. This government has proven that it is reactionary, lacks foresight and is content with subjecting this country to a back and forth that only benefits them and their corrupt aspirations.

The EFF will therefore continue to engage in political activity in a democratic manner that will allow the general population to engage with an organisation they have an interest in voting for. Elections are not only about the Election Day, but about the months preceding an election that determine whether it is democratic, free and fair.

To limit gatherings yet prematurely announce elections is simply an attempt by the ruling party to retain power by ensuring no one can meaningfully campaign and contest them where they hold power.

Accordingly, the EFF will continue with its June 16 Youth Day event, at Uitsig High School in Pretoria, Gauteng. This gathering will honour the defiant youth of June 16 that stood up to an imposition of laws that undermined their freedoms.

The EFF will never be subjected to a dictatorship under the guise of lockdown regulations. If elections are continuing on the 27. of October 2021, then the EFF will continue to engage in political activity freely in order to protect the integrity of those elections.
