Fransman and Uys to appear before SCOPA to explain maladministration
Tuesday 22 April 2014
Tomorrow, Wednesday 23 April 2014, the Western Cape ANC leader, Marius Fransman, together with Western Cape ANC chief whip,Pierre Uys, will appear before the provincial standing committee on public accounts (SCOPA).
Marius Fransman and Pierre Uys were scheduled to appear before SCOPA earlier this year to discuss an Auditor General's report on the use of consultants dating back to 2003. According to the DA's SCOPA-members, Bokkie Geyer and Mark Wiley, "the report identifies massive irregularities, gross mismanagement of public funds and scandalous governance in the previous ANC administration".
However, mr. Fransman and mr. Uys failed to attend the meeting. Their no-show is indicative of the Zuma ANC's approach to corruption - they try to shield their corrupt leaders from accountability. They were subsequently summonsed to appear before SCOPA tomorrow.
Failure to do so can lead to mr. Fransman and mr. Uys being arrested.
