"Miracle! Bucs star cheats death!" - Daily Sun

The front page and lead story of SA's largest daily newspaper, March 6 2014

Daily Sun (March 6 2014) - Orlando Pirates star Rooi Mahamutsa walked away from this accident - without a scratch!

"I'M OKAY! THANK GOD I SURVIVED. IT'S A MIRACLE!"

"The only thing I remember is that a taxi tried to overtake me. Then I passed out."

People rubbed their eyes in disbelief when they saw the way that barriers had rammed right through the length of his wrecked white BMW M3. This was at the 14th Avenue offramp of the N1 in Roodepoort, Joburg.

A witness said: "It appears he hit the robot, but when we got there he had no injuries or anything."

Orlando Pirates spokesman Mickey Modisane blamed the rain and the slippery road surface.

He said Mahamutsa was alone in the car when he lost control and swerved off the road, hitting the embankment.

"I'm not too sure about the taxi. We haven't received any information on whether there were passengers in the taxi.

"Rooi is fine," said Modisane.

"After the accident he was taken to Morningside Clinic for a full body scan and check-up and doctors said he was fine. We thank God that he survived."

Rooi said he wouldn't have trauma counselling as he felt he didn't need it. Nobody in either of the two vehicles was injured.
