IFP welcomes Medium Term Budget Policy

31 October 2024

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) commends the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) delivered by Finance Minister Hon. Enoch Godongwana, aligning with the goals of the Government of National Unity (GNU). IFP Chief Whip Hon. Nhlanhla Hadebe and Finance Spokesperson affirmed this MTBPS as a significant step forward in realising some of the IFP's manifesto objectives and GNU's objectives.

The IFP highlighted key areas of focus:

The IFP acknowledges the R2.2 billion allocation for disaster relief as an essential response to South Africa’s increasing frequency of natural disasters, underscoring the government’s commitment to resilience and support for communities.

- While the IFP applauds the surplus budget achievement, it emphasises that careful allocation is needed given the pressing socio-economic challenges facing the nation.

- Efforts to reduce national debt were also welcomed, as the IFP stresses the importance of ensuring every rand in government revenue is directed toward essential services.

- The IFP is encouraged by Operation Vulindlela’s success, particularly the substantial investment pipeline in renewable energy, which is critical for diversifying the energy sector and ensuring future sustainability.

- Simplifying public-private partnership regulations aligns with the IFP’s long-held advocacy for streamlined collaboration, enhancing efficiency in service delivery.

The IFP remains committed to fostering transparent governance, economic accountability, and meaningful collaboration within the GNU to address South Africa’s most urgent needs.
