Murdered Tembisa cop highlights need for drastic change in Ekurhuleni – Refiloe Nt’sekhe

DA MC says Sergeant Mogale's death highlights that crime is rampant across the metro

Murdered Tembisa Police Officer highlights the need for drastic change in Ekurhuleni

2 September 2021

Yesterday I attended the memorial service for the late Sergeant Sharon Mogale who was fatally shot in the head while she and her colleague were disarmed at a spaza shop opposite Sangweni Taxi rank in Tembisa.

Crime statistics for the first quarter of this year, April to June, indicate that Tembisa has the fourth highest statistics for Trio Crimes in Gauteng. This is a 36% increase in the space of a single year.

The senseless murder of Sergeant Mogale highlights that crime is rampant, not only in Tembisa – but across the municipality.

As seen with the recent spate of looting and violence across Ekurhuleni, there is an urgent need for our law enforcement agencies to work smarter and closer with communities while inter-agency co-operation must be bolstered.

Under the ANC and their alliance partners in the municipality, residents continue to fall prey to criminals daily. It is evident that the safety of our residents is of little concern to those who were elected to serve the people of Ekurhuleni.

A DA-run Ekurhuleni will prioritise that there are more trained Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Officers to turn the tide on the current crime epidemic that has residents living in fear.

Just as Sergeant Mogale fearlessly served her community, as Mayor, I pledge to serve my residents with the same dedication and commitment to make Ekurhuleni safe and crime-free.

I dedicate this commitment to Sergeant Mogale and all those law enforcement members who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Your deaths will not be in vain.
