My challenge to Mmusi Maimane and Athol Trollip - Wilmot James

DA leadership candidate discloses funding source for his campaign, says rivals should do the same

Show us your money

I have decided, in the interest of transparency, to make a full public disclosure about how my campaign to be elected as Federal Leader of the Democratic Alliance is financed.

1. Donor Income

The Democratic Alliance’s Finance, Fundraising and Procurement Regulations requires:

- candidates to disclose to the party donations towards internal elections;  and

- prohibits candidates from approaching existing donors for donations towards internal elections.

However, I have decided to finance the campaign myself to a maximum of R100 000.  If the cost of the campaign exceeds R100 000, it may be necessary to raise money for my campaign.

If it becomes necessary to raise money for my campaign then in respect of each donation:

- the name of the donor and the amount donated will be made public;

the name of the donor and the amount donated will be declared in terms of the Democratic Alliance’s Finance, Fundraising and Procurement Regulations; and

the name of the donor and the amount donated will be declared in the Register of Members Interests at Parliament.

2. Expenses to Date

I have spent a total of R 75 311,64 to date broken down as follows:
