Results of the Municipal By-elections held on 8 February 2023

During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Northern Cape and Western Cape provinces, the African National Congress (ANC) retained its seat and the Patriotic Alliance (PA) won a seat.
ANC hold Ward 6 (Delportshoop) in Dikgatlong in Frances Baard in the Northern Cape. ANC 67% (46% PR) PA 20% (18% PR) DA 13% (12% PR). A great hold for the ANC on the eve of SONA. Poll: 47% (54%)

The new ANC councillor is:
- Richard Tshepo Springbok, in ward 06, Dikgatlong Municipality – NC092, Northern Cape. The party retained its seat won in 2021 Municipal Elections, with 67,21% of the total votes cast compared to 44,19% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 47,28%.
The new PA councillor is:
- Cheslyn Jerome Steenberg, in ward 56, City of Cape Town Municipality - CPT. The party won the seat previously won by Democratic Alliance with 40,70% of the total votes cast compared to 48,74% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 20,52%.
PA with a historic by-election victory in Cape Town. PA take Ward 56 (Kensington Maitland) from DA. DA failed to register a candidate. PA 41% (1% PR) GOOD+Inglis 24% (25%) ACDP 13% (2%) ARA 11% (1%) Al-Jamah 5%(7%) EFF 5% (1%) PAC 1% (<1%). Poll 21% (47%). A big day for the PA
