LATE PAY FOR BARA DOCTORS
Newly appointed doctors at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital will not receive their January pay today, and have been informed that they will be paid on Thursday after difficulties in putting them on the pay schedule of the Gauteng Shared Services Centre.
According to a circular by Ms Johanna More, the hospital's Chief Executive Officer: "Kindly be informed that through the intervention of the Head of Department (Dr. K. Chetty), the Gauteng Shared Services Centre (GSSC) has promised to process all mandates submitted for capturing. As a result, transactions that are being captured will generate salaries that would be payable by Thursday the 3rd of February 2011."
The Gauteng Health Department has blamed the hospital for the late submission of documents, but the real problem is a department circular on 30 November last year that announced a moratorium on all new appointments unless approved by Dr Kamy Chetty, the Head of Department.
It appears that this is why appointments were rejected by the GSSC, affecting a number of hospitals.
This is yet another instance of mismanagement that makes it difficult to recruit medical professionals that we desperately need to improve our health services.
