AfriForum condemns racist Villa Bravado video
AfriForum has noted with contempt, the existence of another racist initiation video that has surfaced at the University of the Free State. This time at the Villa Bravado men's hostel at Kovsies. In the video four white students are humiliated and pulled across the floor by a large group of black students, in what seems to be "an initiation" taking place. Cornelius Jansen van Rensburg, spokesperson for AfriForum, said that AfriForum intend to submit a complaint to the Human Rights Commission against the University of the Free State as well as the students that participated in this so-called initiation.
"This video must be condemned in the same manner that the Reitz video was", said Jansen van Rensburg. The Human Rights Commission should launch an investigation immediately into the reasons for the continuous racist practices at the Kovsies Campus.
Racism is obviously still a problem at the campus and earlier attempts by the Department of Education and the University to eradicate racism, have failed. "The Kovsies Management should, without political interference, revise the admission policy to hostels", said Jansen van Rensburg.
It is apparent from both the Villa Bravado and Reitz incidents that racism cannot be attributed to only one segment of the population. AfriForum condemn black racism as well as white racism and call on the Management of Kovsies to take immediate action, as it did in the past.
