Nhlanhla Nene resigns as an MP - Office of ANC Chief Whip

RESIGNATION OF CDE NHLANHLA NENE AS A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT

The Office of the ANC Chief Whip confirms the resignation of former Finance Minister, Comrade Nhlanhla Nene, as a Member of Parliament effective 09 October 2018.

In a letter received by the Office today, comrade Nene indicated that he is submitting his resignation as an MP following his decision to step down as Finance Minister.

"l take this opportunity to thank you for the working relationship we have had during my tenure as a Member of Parliament. I am also indebted to the ANC and the people of South Africa for having given me the opportunity to serve our country in my capacity as an elected representative," comrade Nene said.

The ANC Chief Whip, comrade Jackson Mthembu thanked comrade Nene for his service to the ANC and the people of South Africa. "There are very few people who are able to own up to their error of judgement, comrade Nene is amongst the few," comrade Mthembu said.

The ANC Chief Whip further congratulates the newly appointed Finance Minister, comrade Tito Mboweni. We look forward to comrade Mboweni delivering the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MT BPS) in Parliament next Wednesday.
