Sanef Council elects new Chairperson of Sanef

Editors from around the country gathered today (Feb 16, 2013) for the Sanef Council Meeting in Cape Town.

At this meeting the Sanef Chairperson elected was Nicholas Dawes who is also the Editor of Mail & Guardian. Nicholas Dawes was Acting Chairperson and takes over from Mondli Makhanya who stepped down as Chairman of Sanef for another venture outside of the newsroom.

The Deputy Chairperson of Sanef is Mpumelelo Mkhabela, Editor of Sowetan. Makhudu Sefara, Editor of The Star will take over from Mpumelelo as head of the Media Freedom Subcommittee of Sanef.

Premier of the Western Cape & leader of the DA, Helen Zille addressed the Editors that evening at the Protea President Hotel in Cape Town. See media reports and tweets for details of Ms Zille's speech.
