Nkandlagate report must not be brought to parliament to be buried - Lindiwe Mazibuko

Lindiwe Mazibuko says it would be totally unacceptable for a closed committee to process Public Protector report

Nkandlagate report must not come to Parliament to be buried

The Democratic Alliance notes the comments made by the ANC Chief Whip, Stone Sizani, that the Nkandla report emanating from an investigation into the over R200 million of public money spent on President Zuma's private Nkandla home, should be tabled in Parliament.

The DA has long called for this report to be brought before the National Assembly so that it can be scrutinised and debated publically. It will be completely unacceptable for this report to come to Parliament to be buried behind a ‘closed' committee, as has been done with the Public Works Task Team Report into the same matter.

The Public Protector, Adv Thuli Madosela has confirmed that this report is near completion and has committed to handing over the provisional report to me as the complainant, to give feedback and raise any pertinent issues I may have before the report is finalised. One of the recommendations I will make to her office is that this report be made public, and then submitted to Parliament to be handled by an open committee, as has been done with the Public Protector's IEC report.

The DA will monitor this process carefully. South Africans have waited for well over a year to see those responsible for this flagrant abuse of public funds brought to account and we will not rest until this is done.
