No basis for HETN's legal action - UCT

University says intention of revised admissions policy is to further enhance transformation, redress, fairness and campus diversity

In response to "HETN issues letter of demand to UCT over new admissions policy", published on Politicsweb on 6 November 2014:

The University of Cape Town can confirm that it has received a letter from the Higher Education Transformation Network (HETN).

UCT rejects the HETN's notion that the university's new student admissions policy will reversetransformation at UCT or that it "will result in further marginalization of black and woman applicants". In fact, it is our view that the opposite is true. The intention with revising the admissions policy is to further enhance transformation, redress, fairness and campus diversity.

We have repeatedly invited the HETN to visit UCT to ascertain the facts of the matter. The offer still stands. We see no basis for legal action.
