No criminal cops have been dismissed thus far - Dianne Kohler Barnard

DA MP says there is no plan by SAPS to re-establish fitness boards after the previous ones were declared null and void

Minister reveals that criminal cops won't appear before Boards of Fitness

22 July 2014

The DA will write to the Minister of Police, Nathi Nhleko, requesting that he instruct the National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega, to lawfully re-instate the Fitness Boards of Inquiry into the 1448 members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) who have been convicted of criminal offences.

Today a reply to a DA parliamentary question revealed that 1064 of the 1448 members who appeared before the Fitness Boards of Inquiry will not reappear before fitness boards. Furthermore, that the remaining 317 members have yet to appear at all, given the decision in the matter of POPCRU obo Ngewekazi & the Minister of Police.

Of even greater concern is the revelation by the Minister that none of these members have been dismissed thus far. With these boards of inquiry now nul and void, given Ms Phiyega's disastrous handling of this matter, and no clear plan to re-establish them, these 1448 cops will remain on the beat.

This is simply unacceptable, especially if one considers the crimes that have been convicted of. The list of which follows below:

This is the second time we have requested Phiyega to clean up her latest mess by re-establishing the boards of inquiry under the correct provisions of the SAPS disciplinary regulations. The fact that neither her nor the Minister have taken action as of yet is gross negligence which must be brought to an end.

It is now time to put the safety of South African's first and to not let a group of criminal cops continue to ruin the reputation of tens of thousands of hard working and dedicated police men and women.
