SERGEANT ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT GBH IN LOMANYANENG, NORTH WEST

PRETORIA - 14 March 2013 The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a Sergeant in Lomanyang, North West. The arrest was made on 13 March 2013.

It is alleged that on 07 March 2013 at about 20:30 the complainant was at Setlopo Village where he stays and went to a nearby Tuckshop. He alleges that at the tuckshop, there were two police officers one of whom is known to the complainant. Apparently, the complainant noticed that the police officers were harassing a certain boy. After the police had finished talking to the boy, the complainant called the boy to advise him about what to do should he feel that he was treated badly by the police.

The complainant, who is a court interpreter at Molopo Magistrate Court, alleges that the same policemen confronted him about what he had said to the boy. It is alleged that they called the complainant to the state vehicle on the driver's side. The driver grabbed the complainant by the neck and asked him if he knew what police were capable of these days. The policeman allegedly drove off and dragged the complainant for about 100 metres.

The victim sustained injuries to his feet and was taken to hospital by his neighbor.

The case was reported to the police on 12 March 2013 and they reported the matter to the IPID.

After conducting an investigation, the IPID arrested the suspect on 13 March 2013 at Lomanyaneng SAPS where he works. He was charged today and will appear at the Mmabatho Magistrates Court on 15 March 2013.
