Nxesi reprimand needs to be challenged – SACP

Party says minister instituted investigation into Nkandla matter when he first took office

SACP in the Province of Moses Mabhida, KZN deeply concerned about reprimand of Minister Thulas Nxesi‎

25 April 2016

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Moses Mabhida Province is disturbed by the reprimand of the Minister of Public Works, Cde Thulas Nxesi.

The SACP in the Moses Mabhida Province believes that the reprimand is unwarranted mainly because when the monumental acts of corruption and theft of state resources at a massive scale were committed Cde Thulas Nxesi was not the minister of Public Works.

The party believes the reprimand is very unfair to Cde Thulas more especially because when he took over he is the one who instituted investigations that resulted in the action taken against certain officials.

Worse still, the recent Constitutional Court judgement did not pronounce on Nxesi’s involvement in the Nkandla debacle.‎ Neither did the Public Protector's remedial action, which clearly states that the ministers who must be reprimanded are those who were‎  involved for the manner in which they handled the project and state funds were abused.

How come Nxesi, the Minister who was not involved in such, but was the first to investigate wrongdoing and corruption in the project including price inflation immediately after he was appointed is reprimanded leaves much to be desired. This cannot be left unexamined!!

The SACP in the Moses Mabhida province believes that this reprimand needs to be challenged and will seek an urgent meeting with the Party’s Central Committee to determine the way forward.
