Manase report: opposition walkout
The Democratic Alliance in eThekwini refused to take part in a closed special council sitting at the city hall today and led a walk-out after council Speaker Logie Naidoo informed councillors that they were merely there to have a report-back meeting on the Manase report.
The NFP, Cope, MF, and ACDP followed in the footsteps of the DA in abandoning the closed meeting.
The DA's Deputy Caucus Leader in eThekwini, Martin Meyer, said the Manase report belonged to the public and the DA would not take part in a meeting intended to keep a lid on the corruption spelled out therein.
Meyer said the sixteen-month wait for the report warranted nothing less than its full release and neither the DA, nor the public, would accept anything less.
"The ANC have shown that they do not have the political will to deal decisively with corruption and mismanagement, prefering to protect those within their ranks who may be mentioned within the report. The Manase Report is merely a symptom of the gross financial mismanagement that is endemic in the eThekwini Municipality and our fight for its unabridged release will not stop," said Meyer.
