"Our Jabu died for nothing!" - Daily Sun

"Sister: they could've called cops, why did they kill him?" - front page lead, May 12 2015

Daily Sun (May 12 2015) - JABULANI WAS accused of stealing cellphones and was beaten so badly he died from his wounds.

But when his clothes were searched he didn’t have any stolen goods on him.

JABULANI WAS AN INNOCENT MAN. HE DIED FOR NOTHING, SAID HIS FAMILY.

“My brother has never stolen anything in his life,” said Hloni Dhlamini (26), the sister of Jabulani Dhlamini (31), from Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.

Jabulani was on his way home at about 4am on Saturday morning with his friends when two men attacked him.

The suspects, who have been taken into custody, alleged that Jabulani had robbed them.

They said the other men ran away, but they caught Jabulani.

But when the police and family went through Jabulani’s clothes, he had nothing on him that could possibly belong to any other person.

Hloni told Daily Sun when her brother left home on Friday morning it was the last time they saw him alive. “My mother was still sleeping when Jabulani’s friend came knocking on the door and told her Jabulani was dead,” she said.

“We went rushing to the scene and saw Jabulani’s body lying on the ground. The stones and sticks they had used to assault him were still lying around him.”

The family said Jabulani’s death comes as a shock because he was always home with his girlfriend and never went out with the wrong people.

“If he robbed them, why didn’t they call the police to arrest him?” asked Hloni.

“Why did they have to kill him? We want answers from the arrested men. We want justice.”

Hloni said Jabulani was a humble man who never fought with anyone. He loved his family and always helped around the house.

“I’m hurt by the way he died. He died a painful death. Life will never be the same without him,” she said.

Vosloorus police spokesman, Constable Patrick Mashiane said a murder case has been opened at the police station. He said two suspects were arrested and will appear in the Vosloorus Magistrates Court today.
