Message of condolence on passing of Ms Matladi from President Jacob Zuma

It is with great sadness that I have received the news of the passing on of Mme Mavis Matladi (MP), leader of the United Christian Democratic Party (UCDP) and Member of the National Assembly after a short illness.

The passing of Mme Matladi is indeed a great loss to all South Africans, particularly given the contribution she made to the work of her political party and the work of Parliament.

South Africa has lost one of its most beloved, dedicated and hard working daughters. We mourn her departure inspired by the rich legacy of selflessness and devotion that she leaves behind.

We will sorely miss her contribution to National Assembly debates including that of the State of the Nation Address. Her focus was always on the people and how the work we do impacts on their lives.

On behalf of Government and the people of South Africa, we extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends and all members of the United Christian Democratic Party.
