Petros should have backed-up police - DA

Kate Lorimer says Winnie Mandela should have no special dispensation to break law

Who does Winnie think she is asks DA?

According to media reports a car transporting Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on 30 December 2010 was stopped by members of the SAPS going at 150km per hour. When they stopped the vehicle they were allegedly verbally and physically abused by Ms. Madikizela-Mandela's bodyguard and by Ms Madikizela-Mandela herself.

We need to know what really happened and an independent investigation must be conducted into the incident. I am extremely concerned at the reports which claim that Lt. General Petros is going to accompany the police officers involved to apologise to Ms. Mandela. If this is the case, what on earth makes the Lt. General think that some people can indiscriminately break the law?

Ms. Mandela is a Member of Parliament, no more, no less.  She has no special dispensation when it comes to breaking the law.  The bodyguard allegedly claimed that Ms.Madikizela-Mandela was running late for some appointment. This is no excuse for breaking the speed limit and Ms. Madikizela-Mandela should know better.

Lt. General Petros should be backing up his policemen on this issue, as it seems that they were only doing their job, as he has, on numerous occasions, instructed.
