POPCRU WELCOMES THE SUSPENSION OF THE NATIONAL COMMISSIONER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES.

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) welcomes the immediate suspension of DCS's National Commissioner and Chief Financial Officer Ms Xoliswa Sibeko and Ms Nandi Mareka respectively. We view the allegations proffered against the two senior technocrats of the department as very serious and in contravention of the provisions of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

The Department of Correctional Services is one of the state departments that execute critically important constitutional duties and its managers should always be above reproach and should display exemplary leadership that is in accordance with moral rectitude. It is our view that the investigation should be expedited and proper recommendations made in the finalization of this very important issue.
