ANCYL CALLS ON SAA TO LAY CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST FORMER SAA CEO KHAYA NGQULA

The ANC Youth League calls on the Board of South African Airways to immediately lay criminal charges against Khaya Ngqula, the former CEO of South African Airways in addition to other routes the Board took to recover the money stolen from the Airline. It is with shock and disgust that Mr Ngqula had run a state owned enterprise with very minimal respect for both the State's confidence in his appointment and that of the people of South Africa.

No individual bestowed with the responsibility of heading an enterprise of the State should go beyond their mandate and abuse executive power and finances. It is people like these who make the general public to loose confidence on the capacity of the State to run enterprises and the economy, thus opening space for neo-liberals to misguide South Africa's economic policies. The ANCYL will forever be intolerant to corruption especially when it comes to State owned enterprises as they have a crucial role to play in the economic liberation of our people.

It is against this background that the ANCYL calls for immediate criminal charges to be laid against Khaya Ngqula, and he be prosecuted on allegations of corruption. The intention to sue Mr Ngqula must be accompanied with immediate prosecution, in order to discourage potential corrupt behaviour and ensure that there is effective and efficient functioning of all State owned enterprises. If found to have stolen money of SAA, Khaya Ngqula and those who cooperated with him must be locked up in jail for many years without parole, as such elements do not belong in a prosperous South Africa.
