WCape's R316.5m investment in infrastructure welcomed – DA

Undertakings will contribute to the improved delivery and maintenance of road networks essential for the economic growth

DA welcomes the WC government’s R316.5m investment for infrastructure and economic development

The DA welcomes the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure’s investment of R316,5 million for Infrastructure and economic development in the Overberg Region that has so far created 270 job opportunities.

Two major projects have been undertaken: the upgrade of the R326 road between Standford and Riviersonderend and the enhancement of the R320 road between Caledon and Hermanus.

R136.9 million has been invested into the R326 road between Standford and Riviersonderend.

R17 million has been invested into local SMME’s to complete the R326 project.

R124 million has been set aside for the completion of the R320 rehabilitation.

R38.6 million has been invested into the 21 appointed SMME’s and local enterprises to complete the R320 project.

Matlhodi Maseko said: “These undertakings represent a significant investment and will contribute to the improved delivery and maintenance of road networks essential for the economic growth and prosperity of the Western Cape.

The R326 road upgrades will be completed by the end of July 2023 while the R320 road infrastructure upgrades are set to be completed in November 2023. This will unlock opportunities for economic growth that will in turn create jobs to the benefit of Overberg communities.”

The country’s only license printing machine is once again out of order. This news again emphasises the merits and necessity of AfriForum’s court case later this year, which deals with the expiry of driver’s license cards. According to the Department of Transport, the machine broke down due to a technical problem that requires a part to be replaced by the original manufacturer.
