IRR at SA Human Rights Commission: Racism in advertising has been defeated
15 March 2022
Taking the stand at the SA Human Rights Commission’s (HRC) investigation into alleged racism in the advertising industry, IRR Head of Campaigns Gabriel Crouse said South Africans “must never be afraid to claim success where the work has been done”, adding: “We have klapped racism out of our advertising airspace, and if we build on that we can get rid of race-nationalist and race-Marxist politics too.”
No evaluation of the extent of racism in South African advertising products is possible without first knowing the massive extent of this industry. The number of ads flighted in the period January 21 – December 31 2021 can be broken down as follows:
TV – 7 562 515
Radio – 1 851 101
