Ramaphosa's blue-light convoy knocks over cyclist - John Moodey

DA Gauteng leader says convoy did not stop, leaving severly injured man lying unconscious next to the road

Ramaphosa's blue light convoy injures Wedela cyclist

Cyril Ramaphosa's blue light convoy seriously injured a cyclist today in Wedela township in Merafong municipality.

DA activists witnessed the incident first hand. Ramaphosa left a voting station in the area and departed with his convoy.

After being stuck in traffic for several minutes, the Merafong Police switched on their blue lights and sped ahead. In the process, a cyclist was knocked over.

Ramaphosa's convoy did not stop. They left the scene immediately as the man laid knocked out next to the road.

DA activists were on hand to help and saw the injured man being taken away by an ambulance. He sustained serious head injuries.

This is an unacceptable abuse of power and is symptomatic of the ANC leadership's arrogance in dealing with people. Jacob Zuma's ANC thinks that it can do whatever it feels like.

Blue light convoys must be banned in Gauteng. They are dangerous and can easily lead to incidents such as these. If the DA is elected into government we will not allow blue light convoys in the province.

We will also report this incident to the relevant IPID structures in Gauteng to make sure a full investigation is launched.
