CLARIFICATION OF MS RAMOS'S MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT

Some members of the media have been speculating about the fact that Ms Maria Ramos, the Group Chief Executive of Transnet Limited, was seen at Gallagher Estate, the venue of the meeting of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress, on Friday. We wish to clarify that Ms Ramos and Mr Fred Phaswana, the Chairman of Transnet, were at Gallagher Estate to brief the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr Kgalema Motlanthe, about Ms Ramos's decision to step down as Transnet's chief executive with effect from the end of February 2009.
