ANC retains two seats, DA wins one in by-elections – IEC

Christo Boks holds in ward in Matzikama Municipality after defecting from PA to DA

Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 6 July 2022

During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and the Western Cape, the African National Congress (ANC) retained two seats and the Democratic Alliance (DA) won one seat. 

The new councillors for the ANC are as follows:

- Mandlakazi Mabuda, in Ward 43, in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality- NMA:  The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, by 69.11% of the total votes cast compared to 70.13% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 28.31%.

- Nomvula Elizabeth Dlamini, in Ward 03, in Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality – MP301: The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 72.96% of the total votes cast compared to 82.10% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 43.94%

The new councillor for the DA is:

- Christo Jacoby Boks, in Ward 07, in Matzikama Municipality – WC011: The party won the seat over the Patriotic Alliance (PA) from the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 26.91% of the votes cast compared to 62.27% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 58.96%.
