FF Plus welcomes Zondo’s ruling on racist tourism fund

The FF Plus welcomes the ruling by Judge Raymond Zondo in the Constitutional Court, which confirmed that the ANC government's implementation of the Tourism Equity Fund during the Covid-19 pandemic was unlawful and racist.

The ruling by the court follows an application by the Minister of Tourism, Lindiwe Sisulu, and her department for leave to appeal against an earlier order.

According to that order, the race-based criteria used for providing relief to tourism enterprises during the pandemic was unlawful and racist.

This ruling along with the debacle surrounding SA Tourism's (SAT) soccer sponsorship of R1 billion, which was exposed last week, once again proves that the Tourism Ministry is not effectively fulfilling its mandate and oversight role.

The FF Plus said in 2022 already that the Tourism Ministry is redundant and of no use to South Africa.

It is clear that the Ministry's actions do not only pose a risk to the country, but have also become an embarrassment for all South Africans.

It would be in the best interest of the country to make it a priority to scrap the Tourism Ministry.

South Africans deserve better than the ANC.
