SAA: What is Dudu Miyeni trying to hide? - Natasha Mazzone

DA MP says she will submit PAIA applications to obtain the minutes of the airline's last 12 board meetings

DA calls for full transparency at SAA

The front page story of today’s Sunday Times details allegations of how mistrust and back-stabbing are rife at South African Airways (SAA).

According to the article the Chairperson of the Board of SAA, Dudu Myeni, will not allow meetings to be recorded and that she stations her body guards at the entrance to meeting rooms who search people and confiscate their cellphones and notes of meetings after proceedings conclude.

This begs the question, what is Ms Myeni trying to hide?

The fact is that SAA is a state-owned entity that the South African public have poured billions into through government bailouts using taxpayers’ money. Therefore the South African public has a right to know what is going on in the company.

Therefore, the DA will submit PAIA applications to obtain the minutes of their last 12 board meetings, including the minutes of the meeting in which they decided, at the eleventh hour, to renege on its equity partnership agreement with Emirates Airlines, which would have seen more than R2 billion injected into the cash strapped entity decided on the course of action to take with Emirates.

We will also request the full CV's of all board members and request to know directly who is involved with the Jacob Zuma foundation.

The DA believes that government and their entities should at all times act honestly, transparently and in the interests of all South Africans. This is essential especially when decisions involve the use and spending of taxpayers’ hard-earned money.
