SACP Mpumalanga PEC media statement
The Mpumalanga PEC held its ordinary PEC on the 5th of June 2011 at Emalahleni SACP offices.
This PEC was primarily about assessing the outcome and the processes leading to the Local Government Elections in the province. We observed that there were many challenges but generally smooth and very peaceful.
We also noted with concern, the dissolution of the MEGA board under very mysterious circumstances and a lot of unexplained complexities. MEGA is a very strategic entity, with a lot of resources for development, we are convinced that it is highly targeted by a lot of greedy tenderpreneurs and there is a scramble of hands to the cookie jar.
We are therefore appealing for a comprehensive investigation of the operation of MEGA and all other entities in the province.
We also observed that tenders / tendering system in general is the cause of most conflicts in the movement, Alliance partners and even the country. They also contribute to elitism, corruption and perpetuate poverty of the majority and provide very poor delivery to the masses. We further observed that this system, which by the way, is a capitalist system, is inherently corrupt, fighting corruption with it at the helm is a serious contradiction. We are calling for the strengthening of delivery through a strong public sector.
However we welcome and appreciate the national treasury's directive that companies that got tenders from government be made public, we strongly believe that this is a positive move towards transparency and a fight against corruption. It is also going to assist in identifying those Lumpen tenderpreneurs, who just continuously rip off the public.
We further observed and appreciated the unity of the SACP in Mpumalanga and its growth, which indicate an improvement in class consciousness amongst the people, also appreciated the strength of the Central Committee, its unity and ability to guide all structures of the SACP throughout the country in implementing a revolutionary programme of attaining Socialism in South Africa by advancing and deepening a National Democratic Revolution. We re-iterated our resolve to observe the letter and the spirit of the Medium Term Vision, re-affirm the deployment of our senior Cadres to the State, believing that those resolutions were well thought of, and will be reviewed by us, SACP Structures based on the material conditions, as they unfold , Alliance structures must support and respect our decisions.
We also resolved to convene a Provincial Council to be held at the former Kwandebele College of Education on the 18 and 19 June 2011 expecting 624 delegates including all Alliance partners and MDM Structures. We are also hosting a 90th SACP Anniversary rally to be held at Bushbuckridge on the 3rd of July 2011 at Mapulaneng Multipurpose Centre.
