SADTU 'cash-for-jobs' report: More evidence needed - COSATU

Federation calls on those who are currently spreading rumours to contact law enforcement agencies with their information

COSATU supports SADTU in calling for evidence on alleged ‘selling of promotion posts’

18 May 2015

The Congress of South African Trade Unions has noted media reports on allegations of ‘selling of promotion posts in some provinces’ (see City Press report).

COSATU argues that SADTU is not an employing agency and therefore the Department of Education as an employer must investigate all the allegations of ‘promotion posts being sold’.

COSATU argues that SADTU is a major stakeholder within the education fraternity to the promotion of labour standards that regulates fair, transparent and objective hiring practices and therefore the employer must play its role to take full responsibility.

Equally, the School Governing Bodies have a responsibility to recommend who must be hired as and when promotion posts are available.

And such processes are guided by Collective Agreements.

Trade Unions in many processes have a duty to observe the hiring process to ensure due process is followed.

COSATU calls on all who are spreading such ‘rumours’ to contact law enforcement agencies to share information in assisting investigation to be concluded.
