Sanctions against nine MPs nonsensical – EFF

Fighters say this is an abuse of power by the ANC and a stifling of democratic debate and accountability

EFF statement on the sanctions against 9 EFF Members of Parliament for calling Cyril Ramaphosa a money launderer

14 March 2024

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemns the nonsensical and patently partisan recommendation by the Parliament's Powers and Privileges Committee, which has found nine (9) EFF Members of Parliament guilty of calling Cyril Ramaphosa a criminal and a money launderer.

In what can only be described as an abuse of power by the ANC and a stifling of democratic debate and accountability in Parliament, the ANC-dominated Powers and Privileges Committee has found EFF Members of Parliament Commissar Sinawo Thambo, Commissar Natasha Ntlangwini, and Fighter Mothusi Montwedi guilty of calling Ramaphosa what he rightfully is, a money launderer, and have recommended a sanction of suspension from the 1st of April to the 30th April 2024, without remuneration.

The following EFF Members of Parliament were also found guilty of calling Ramaphosa what he rightfully is, a money launderer, and a sanction of a fine equivalent to 30 days salary was imposed. The EFF MP's are; Commissar Anthony Matumba, Commissar Paulnita Marais, Commissar Babalwa Mathulela and Fighter Naledi Chirwa.

Commissar Tseko Mafanya and Commissar Yoliswa Yako also received a sanction of a fine equivalent to 15 days salary, for calling Ramaphosa a money launderer.

These sanctions once again prove how the ANC utilises its majority in Parliament to not only cover up corruption, but equally punish those who exercised their duties of holding the executive accountable on behalf of the people of South Africa. For the ruling party to sanction the opposition ahead of Provincial and National Elections, for expressing political speech against their President in a democratic parliament, has the hallmarks of dictatorship.

South Africans will do well to remember that is was the Section 89 Independent Panel Report compiled by former Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo that found that Cyril Ramaphosa may have violated his oath of office and the Constitution of South Africa, by partaking in the movement and possession of illicit money at Phala Phala Farm. This report, which recommended that an impeachment process be enacted by Parliament, was disregarded by a corrupt voting bloc of the ANC in Parliament, that voted against its adoption.

Till today, Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo's report has never been taken on review or challenged, and its legitimacy still stands. It is for this reason that the EFF has approached the Constitutional Court to set aside the decision by Parliament to reject the report as irrational.

The ANC is on its final knees, and one of the characteristics of a dying ruling party is the suppression of opposition voices. The 29th of May 2024 is an opportunity to remove those who play a key-role in the movement of illicit financial flows in South Africa, money laundering and the destruction of our economy, and leading the charge of money launderers is Cyril Ramaphosa.

The EFF is not fazed by these sanctions nor is it intimidated, as these acts are those of an organisation that has lost grips with reality, and has over the past few months impeached a Public Protector and two veteran African judges, and has recently suspended Members of Parliament who belong to the EFF including our President, for protesting peacefully at the SONA of 2023.

Let us all go to the polls on the 29th of May 2024 and remove the corrupt ANC government from power and show them that corruption and dictatorship will come to an end, and a govemment of Economic Freedom will be delivered!
