Save SA asks Cabinet to scrap special Eskom-nuclear talks
2 November 2016
Cape Town – Civil society campaign Save SA has asked Cabinet not to make any decisions on the proposed nuclear power procurement process during a special meeting in Parliament on Wednesday.
A “critical” two-day Cabinet meeting on state-owned enterprises began in Cape Town on Tuesday, News24 reported.
Save SA convenor and AngloGold Ashanti chairperson Sipho Pityana on Tuesday wrote to Cabinet ministers, pleading with them to refuse to discuss the fate of the nuclear deal.
"We understand that at its next meeting on Wednesday the Cabinet is to consider some aspects of the proposed nuclear power procurement process, including vesting Eskom with the authority to lead the process."
