School placement closing date on Friday – Khume Ramulifho

Gauteng DA MPL urges parents to apply to ensure their children doesn’t miss months of schooling

DA urges parents to apply for their children's placement before the closing date on Friday

18 August 2022

The Democratic Alliance (DA) urges all parents and guardians to ensure that they apply for their children’s placements for Grades 1 and 8 for the 2023 academic year before the closing date on Friday.

Unnecessary delays in applying for online admissions have resulted in learners missing months of schooling and being allocated schools that were not chosen by their parents.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) online application process is closing tomorrow, 19 August and parents must ensure that they do not miss the deadline.

Parents who do not have access to the internet should not wait but approach their nearest designated GDE centre for assistance.

Placement offers by the GDE will be sent to the cell phone number of the registered parent or guardian from 3 October 2022 to 30 November 2022.

The DA proposes that the department should provide regular updates with regards to the number of applications received and make sure that all applicants are placed in schools.

We also propose that parents should set aside time, set reminders, and prepare their documents for such a crucial process that affects their children’s future.

Children must not suffer and miss quality learning time due to the failure of their parents or guardians to apply for their online admission timeously.
