Mr D J Maynier (DA) to ask the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services:
(1) [Written Question No 1294] (a) What total amount was spent on the Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of Fraud, Corruption, Impropriety or Irregularity in the Strategic Defence Procurement Package and (b) what is the breakdown of such expenditure during the period 27 October 2011 up to the latest specified date for which information is available;
(2) What was the (a) total amount spent and (b) breakdown of such expenditure on the compensation of each specified (i) commissioner, (ii) consultant and (iii) forensic auditor during the period 27 October 2011 up to the latest date for which information is available? NW1589E
REPLY TO PARLIMENTARY QUESTION NO 5 REQUESTED ON 28 OCTOBER 2014:
(1) (a) The total cost as at 30 September 2014 is R83 199 million.
(b) The table below provides the breakdown of the expenditure up to 30 September 2014:
(2) (a) The total amount spent on consultants from 27 October 2012 up to 30 September 2014 is R15 110 million.
(b) Breakdown of Expenditure as follows:
(i) Both Commissioners are Judges from the High Court and are therefore not remunerated by the Commission.
(ii) The total cost of consultants from 27 October 2012 up to 30 September 2014 is R41 955 million broken down as follows:
(iii) Total cost for the Forensic Auditor up to 30 September 2014 is R9 294 million broken down per year as follows:
(3) (a) The total cost as at 31 July 2014 is R44 849 000, this amount has been included in the reply above, i.e. 1 (a).
(b) (i) The Commissioners are Judges so they are not paid by the Commission. There was no additional cost
incurred for their employment to the Commission.
(ii) and (iii) The table below depicts the total amount spent and breakdown for consultants and forensic auditors.
