DA stages silent protest against alleged sexual abuse at AB Xuma Primary
12 October 2017
Today the DA visited the AB Xuma Primary School along with the DA Orlando East leadership and conducted a peaceful demonstration outside the school. We are deeply concerned about reports of sexual harassment that have allegedly taken place the school.
It is alleged that a security guard has been sexually abusing school children. It further appears that this has been going on for some time as 57 cases have already been opened against the security guard.
When questioned about the matter the school Principal merely said: “I am not going to get involved”, showing a complete disregard for the gravity of this issue. DA urges the Gauteng Department of Education to urgently assist the investigation in any way possible.
The DA condemns any form of sexual abuse in the strongest of terms and we stand in solidarity with the community. We urge authorities to act swiftly to ensure that justice is done. We urge all residents and learners to continue reporting cases of abuse against our children.
