Sithembiso Ngidi died in a hail of bullets Sunday - ANC KZN

Party condemns murder of executive member of Ward 75 Branch in Durban's Jacobs area

ANC CONDEMNS KILLING OF ITS BRANCH LEADER

24 June 2013

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal condemns in the strongest possible terms the barbaric and senseless killing of Comrade Sithembiso Ngidi, the executive member of an ANC branch at Durban's Jacobs area.

Comrade Ngidi, an executive member of Ward 75 Branch, was sprayed with a hail of bullets on Sunday afternoon soon after he had attended an ANC door to door election campaign at Lamontville Township, South of Durban.

The ANC is shocked by this shameful attack and we call upon our law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are successfully prosecuted.

Cde Ngidi was one of the hard working cadres of our movement and his experience as a branch leader entrenched him in communities which he served with distinction. The ANC sends its deepest condolences to the Ngidi family, comrades and friends.

The ANC also condemns violent protests at Durban's Glebe Hostel which have seen offices of the local municipal councilor and a community hall vandalized. We call on our people to exercise their rights to protest in a peaceful and orderly manner.

It is therefore unacceptable when people's rights are violated by perpetrators of violent actions such as damage to property and the destruction of valuable public infrastructure that happened at Glebe Hostel.

Statement issued by Bongani Mthembu, ANC KwaZulu Natal, June 24 2013
