Springboks rugby jerseys imported from China threaten support for the National team amongst workers
COSATU is outraged by the importation of the Rugby supporter's jerseys from China. This failure by SARU to procure jerseys from SA companies denies workers the opportunities to get jobs from the world Cup. The statement from SARU that they have a deal with the clothing workers union is not in keeping with the discussions that have taken place. We Call on SARU to apologise for not ensuring SA manufactured sweaters, for the public as well as committing to place orders from SA companies for the further jerseys required for the World Cup.
Should SARU not accede to these demands by Friday 9 Septembers 2011, we will be forced to protest SARU conduct as well as calling on the Minister to investigate the conduct of the Officials of SARU in these matters. It is this short-sightedness and greed from SARU management that leads to the lack of development and transformation in Rugby, hence an overwhelming white team 17 years into democracy
There will be a press conference at COSATU on concerns of support for the National team, and protest action.
