Department fights corruption in all its facilities
18 Feb 2014
Employees of Masakhane Laundry in Tshwane have held a picket and wildcat protest this morning after receiving news that one official will face disciplinary action following allegations of contravening recruitment procedures in the facility.
The department has been investigating these allegations since last year and evidence has been found against one of the suspected officials. Staff recruitment was called off at this facility last year, when allegations surfaced that the selection process was compromised.
A team from the provincial head office was dispatched to the facility this morning and has held meetings all day with labour representatives in an attempt to resolve the conflict.
The MEC for Health Hope Papo has appealed for calm and called on the employees to work with the department to fight eliminate fraud and corruption in the system.
