SECOND COURT APPEARANCE IN UNREST RELATED MATTERS IN DURBAN

The following people appeared today in the Verulam Magistrates' Court, relating to the unrest that took place in parts of the greater Durban area two weeks ago:

-Dylan Govender (29). Charged with one count of murder and one of attempted murder

-Ned Govender (30). Charged with one count of murder

-Jeetendra Jaikissoon (39). Charged with one count of murder

They were remanded in custody until Tuesday, 03 August 2021 for formal bail application.

- Justin Hira (32). Charged with possession of prohibited firearm and possession of drugs.

-  Seelan Chetty (24). Charged with 3 counts of attempted murder, and malicious Injury to property.

-Owen Chinnasamy (23). Charged with 3 counts of attempted murder, and malicious injury to property

-Vernon Philip Govender (21). Charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They were remanded in custody until Wednesday, 04 August 2021 for formal bail application.

-Brenton Callen Shunmogam (25). Charged with possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of a dangerous weapon.

-Mirandin Kaylyn Reddy (26). Charged with possession of unlicensed ammunition, possession of suspected stolen goods and contravention of PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority) Act.

They were remanded in custody until Thursday, 05 August 2021 for formal bail application

-Alfonzo Naidoo (23). Charged with possession of suspected stolen goods. He was previously (on the first appearance) granted bail of R2000. His matter was adjourned to 25 August 2021 for further investigation.
