Systemic assault on South African Foreign Policy and sovereignty
18 April 2024
The Media Review Network (MRN) notes with concern the systematic assault on South Africa's foreign policy and sovereignty to bring it into line with the dictates of the Global North.
Yesterday, the Foreign Office of Britain issued a travel advisory for its citizens citing an unsubstantiated 'terror threat' in the country. Today, US legislators have warned the country against arresting SA Zionists serving in the Zionist Terror Forces
Like the unsubstantiated allegations of supplying arms to Russia (Lady R saga), the substantiated 'terror threat' against Africa's richest square mile, Sandton, attempts by US legislators to review diplomatic relations with South Africa, this latest 'terror threat' comes with zero evidence.
DIRCO Director General, Zain Dangor bemoaned the unprocedural and unsubstantiated nature of the alleged threat.
These threats and allegations are nothing but thinly veiled attempts to bring SA foreign policy in line with the dictates of the colonial West.
These are not innocent mistakes. Rather, these are purposeful attempts to curtail the international standing of South Africa which has been elevated ever since it took the Zionist entity to the International Court of Justice for its genocide of indigenous Palestinians in Gaza and its neutral stance on the Russia/Ukraine conflict.
The Media Review Network has repeatedly stated that standing on the side of justice for Palestinians and others in the Global South comes with a heavy cost.
South Africans need to join the dots.
The MRN calls upon the Department of International Relations and Cooperation and the SA government to remain resolute on justice. We should continue to use the institutions of the liberal institutional order to garner justice for the oppressed, no matter how flawed they may be.
If they cannot be used in favour of the oppressed, they should not be used for anyone.
