ANC STATEMENT ON IMPEACHMENT CALL
24 October 2012
The African National Congress is not surprised by the call made by Terror Lekota of COPE, for the impeachment of President Jacob Zuma. His statement is consistent with his personal hatred for President Zuma, which was key in his decision to form COPE as a breakaway party from the ANC.
The ANC believes that the matter of the handover of tapes is a matter within the jurisdiction of National Prosecution Authority and not the President as suggested by Terror Lekota. We find it disingenuous that in trying to draw attention to himself and in trying to be relevant to the current political climate, he finds it opportune to accuse the President for something that does not depend on him. It is evident that COPE is an anti-Zuma party that has no political programme or policy platform.
It is typical of parties that have no clear policy orientation to clutch on straws to justify their existence.
